USPS announces bid solicitation for access to last-mile delivery network

"This will be a new approach for using more than 18,000 entry points... The Postal Service has announced a new opportunity for shippers large and small to access its valuable network of more than 18,000 destination delivery units nationwide through a solicitation process that will begin accepting bids in late January or early February. Shippers who wish to access the network of destination delivery units, also known as DDUs, will have the ability to propose a combination of volume, pricing and tender times at each location, with deliveries for successful bidders being made by USPS that same day or the next day, at the customer’s preference...."

USPS | Almost 190 years ago, a fire destroyed vital postal records

"...On Dec. 15, 1836, a quick-moving fire destroyed a large government-owned building in Washington, DC. ...The General Post Office — which is what the Postal Service was called back then — lost important documents...Postal accounts for the years 1776-1778 were saved thanks to a courageous clerk named Cornelius Cox, who risked his life to save Benjamin Franklin’s original ledger.

The destroyed building, once known as Blodgett’s Hotel — although it never served as a hotel — had a fascinating history. "

NYC auction house sued, demanded to return Florida widow’s $2 million stamp collection

"...Entner and her son William visited in April to inspect the collection.

“At the on-site visit, Ms. Entner came to believe that some of the stamps that had been in the U.S. Collection at the time of consignment in 2016 were no longer there,” according to court papers. ..."
